“Good Morning Port Douglas, Mossman, Cooya, Newall, Whyanbeel, Miallo, Wonga, Daintree, Cow Bay, Thornton Beach, Cape Tribulation, Julatten, Spring Creek, Mowbray, Shannonvale, Cassowary, Oak Beach…..”
This is the 7a.m. “wake-up” call from Michael Gabour on his weekday morning show on Radio Port Douglas. But in this 5-Star tourist town, tucked between the Great Barrier Reef, the rain forest of the Daintree and the Tableland mountain range of Far North Queensland, most of the locals are already up and going about their daily business. Only the chefs, bar tenders, waiters, entertainers and party-revelling tourists, who rolled into bed in the early hours before, give-out a tired groan and fall back to sleep.
Meanwhile, down on Four Mile Beach, there is a “rush hour” going on, as locals and tourists alike, take advantage of the cool early morning breeze from the Coral Sea. Another awesome day in “Paradise” begins….
lyrics
In Paradise
Sunrise over blue water,
Soft sand; an endless beach.
Sea breeze blows upon me gently,
Always out of reach.
“Rush-hour” on a busy Four Mile,
No cars on this “street”.
Sunscreen; better watch my shoulders,
Out in this tropical heat (oh yeah).
Beach cafe, Americano coffee,
A walk down Macrossan Street.
Window shopping in the sunshine
There’s a spring in my feet.
Lazing on a sunny Four Mile,
Lunch with a bottle of wine.
Arvo down at the marina,
Everything here is just fine (oh yeah!)
Was it all in a dream?
Was it all so far away?
Are you going to return?
Yes, I’m going back, going back to stay ...
In Paradise…..
Reef boats all returning safely,
Stroll down to Rex Smeale Park,
Sunset over distant mountains;
The day slips into dark.
Meet friends dinning out at 2 Fish,
“Seafood Platter” is so nice!
No place could be any finer,
Than here in Paradise (oh yeah!)
Was it all in a dream?
Was it all so far away?
Are you going to return?
Yes, I’m going back, going back to stay…
In Paradise…..

Stompin' on Spiders is a musical collective formed at a Blues festival in April 2009. The band's stripped-back acoustic
Blues/Rock style is individual as it is unique, blending the traditional ethos of Blues music with a very modern edge. A "new tradition" is how one music journalist described Stompin' on Spiders; "a radical mix of stripped-back blues and roots inspired by international events"....more
